'Topping out' ceremony marks progress of library expansion

As university officials and others watched, workmen with Dunn Construction Co. installed a 14-foot evergreen tree during a "topping out" ceremony held Nov. 23 at Mitchell Memorial Library. Borrowing from a Scandinavian tradition, the university and the Jackson-based construction company placed the tree at the pinnacle of the $14.9 million library expansion project. Work began Jan. 15 and is expected to be completed by mid-1995. The tree is meant to bring good luck to all occupants of the building.
