The gods themselves were terrified by the Flood: They shrank back, fled upward to the heavens of Anu. Curled up like dogs, the gods lay outside [his door]. Ishtar cried out like a woman giving birth, the seet-voiced lady of the gods cried out, The days of old are turned to clay since I spoke evil in the Assembly of the Gods. How could I speak evil in the Assembly of the Gods? How could I cry out for battle for the destruction of my people? I myself gave birth to my people! [Now] like the children of fish they will fill the sea!"
Gilgamesh p 235.
"O Ishtar, queen of all peoples . . . Thou art the light of heaven and earth. . . At the thought of thy name the heaven and earth quake. . . And the spirits of the earth falter. Mankind payeth homage unto thy mighty name, For thou are great, and thou art exalted, Boweth down before thy power . . . How Long wilt thou tarry, O Lady of Heaven and Earth . . . How long wilt thou tarry, O Lady of all fights and of the battle? O thou glorious one, that . . . art raised on high. that art firmly established, O valiant Ishtar, great in thy might! Bright torch of heaven and earth, light of all dwellings, Terrible in the fight, one who cannot be opposed, strong in the battle! O whilwind, that roarest against the fore and cuttest off the mighty! O furious Ishtar, summoner of armies!

In the Babylonian psalms Ishtar says:
By causing the heavens to tremble and the earth to quake, By the Gleam which lightens in the sky, By the blazing fire which rains upon the hostile land, I am Ishtar. Ishtar am I by the light that arises in heaven, Ishtar the queen of heaven am I by the light that arises in heaven. I am Ishtar; on high I journey. . . The heavens I cause to quake, the earth I cause to shake, That is my fame. "Queen of heaven above and beneath" let be spoken, That is my fame. The mountains I overwhelm altogether, That is my fame.Velikovsky 1950:177.
