Before leaving the topic of ancient soils we must emphasize that although we have discussed them in connection with loess, soils occur in every other kind of Quaternary sediment. They vary in facies in accordance with the local climate at the time of formation and, as in North America, it is observed that all soils truly red in color are no younger than the youngest interglaciation.
